Farm By Nature
Farm by Nature under the 'Cocoa Farm' brand is growing Australia's first cocoa plantation in tropical North Queensland. In response to our queries regarding their product labeling and the implication that cocoa from this plantation was used in products, Farm by Nature clarified that "Our current product does not include Australian grown Cocoa. Yes we are growing cocoa in Mossman North Queensland. We had planned to be in production by mid 2008, but due to floods and storms in February we were unable to harvest. We are hoping to have product available using Qld Cocoa by mid 2009. With regards to the current cocoa farm range, at the moment we can only claim 'fair-trade equivalent' for our organic range. All our organic cocoa is imported from South America, where we pay an additional premium to source this through 'Cafiesa'. The role of Cafiesa is assisting small farmers with a fair pricing and buying system and consequently improves their plantation and communities through micro credits and through training and technology transfer. They also coach them through the process of organic certification, so that they can receive the highest premium that the market allows."

Farm by Nature under the 'Cocoa Farm' brand is growing Australia's first cocoa plantation in tropical North Queensland but their current product does not include Australian grown Cocoa. This however is not made explicit on their product labels or their website, and so misleads consumers to think that their 'Australian Made' chocolate is sourced from their Australian cocoa plantation.
