Company Assessment

PRAISE CRITICISM INFORMATION
CF Farms Pty Ltd
Social Misleading 'Free Range' claims
In 2017 The Federal Court ordered this company to pay penalties totalling a record $750,000 for making false or misleading representations that its eggs were 'free range', in proceedings brought by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. The Court found that most of the hens from Snowdale's sheds did not go outside as the farming conditions significantly inhibited them from doing so. These conditions included the number of pop holes, the number of birds per metre of pop hole, the flock size inside the shed and the shed size.

Animals Factory Farming
This company produces cage eggs, where each bird is allocated space less than the size of a piece of A4 paper. Birds are unable to turn around easily, stretch out, flap their wings or exercise. Cages do not satisfy the hen's behavioural need to perch, dust bathe, forage, and lay their eggs in a secluded nest.

Social Mislabelling allegations
The ACCC and the Nationals WA are investigating claims that this company was using dodgy practices, potentially allowing it to secure contracts with Coles and Woolworths at prices legitimate egg producers were unable to match. The company is accused of importing 600,000 mislabelled substitutes, including caged and fertilised broiler eggs, from interstate and mislabelling them as free-range.

Animals Poor sanitary conditions
The City of Wanneroo is considering laying charges after an investigation into sanitary conditions at Snowdale's Carabooda egg farm, north of Perth, found "large amounts of chicken manure, carcasses and broken eggs" in alleged breach of the Health Act. This company is also facing charges by the ACCC over misleading 'free range' claims.
