This company produces factory farmed chicken meat. Broiler chickens can legally be confined at a density that gives each bird less space than an single A4 sheet of paper. Every year in Australia 435 million chickens endure short and unnatural lives inside factory farms. This approach is fundamentally at odds with chicken welfare.

Most Australian processors use chlorinated iced water to sanitise and cool down chicken carcasses (same as in the US) rather than the air chilling method which is used in Europe. The water has to be chlorinated (at similar levels to a swimming pool) to ensure bacteria are killed. La Ionica promotes its chicken as chemical free as they use the air chilling method. It should be noted that some other parts of this process use Melbourne water which does contain small amounts of chlorine (0.5 ppm).
