PRAISE CRITICISM INFORMATION
West Coast Eggs Pty Ltd
Environment 4/5 for packaging performance
This company received a packaging performance level of 4 (Leading) in its 2022 APCO Annual Report. Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) is a not-for-profit organisation leading the development of a circular economy for packaging in Australia. Each year, APCO Members are required to submit an APCO Annual Report and Action Plan, which includes an overall performance level from 1 (Getting Started) to 5 (Beyond Best Practice).

Animals High free range stocking densities
For eggs to be labelled free range, the Model Code of Practice says there should be a maximum of 1500 hens per hectare. In 2020 Choice updated its list of which egg brands meet the Model Code. According to the report, this company uses a stocking density of 10,000 hens per hectare for its free range eggs, well in excess of the Model Code.

Animals Factory Farming
This company produces cage eggs, where each bird is allocated space less than the size of a piece of A4 paper. Birds are unable to turn around easily, stretch out, flap their wings or exercise. Cages do not satisfy the hen's behavioural need to perch, dust bathe, forage, and lay their eggs in a secluded nest.

Animals Animal Welfare Labels
Golden Egg Farm's barn laid and free range eggs are certified by the Australian Egg Corporation Ltd's Egg Corp Assured certification program. Follow link for more on these standards.
