For eggs to be labelled free range, the Model Code of Practice says there should be a maximum of 1500 hens per hectare. In 2018 Choice updated its list of which egg brands meet the Model Code. According to the report, this company uses a stocking density of 10,000 hens per hectare for its free range eggs, and 2,500 for its organic free range eggs, well in excess of the Model Code.

This company produces cage eggs, where each bird is allocated space less than the size of a piece of A4 paper. Birds are unable to turn around easily, stretch out, flap their wings or exercise. Cages do not satisfy the hen's behavioural need to perch, dust bathe, forage, and lay their eggs in a secluded nest.
