    Industry Alert: Waste to landfill

Nappy waste

There are 3.75 Million disposable nappies are used each day in Australia and New Zealand. Conventional disposable nappies take up to 150 years to break down in landfill, due to their antibacterial properties, and so one baby in disposable nappies full time has a very significant environmental load, creating over two tones of nappy waste. These days there are many alternatives, including eco disposable (will breakdown in landfill), and fitted cloth, as well as traditional cloth. If you're washing cloth, sun dry them rather than using an power dryer.
